Go after it with a club…

I like this quote.  Unfortunately, it is really true.  Sometimes when I get a little too anxious about what’s happening with my manuscripts in my agent’s hands, I get apathetic and stuck.  I start wondering why I do this writing thing.  Creating a story, writing it all out, fleshing out the characters, keeping track of all the characters, and their unique voices and traits, typing, editing, formatting it all so it’s set up right and figuring out what begins a chapter and ends a chapter…then losing a character because he or she doesn’t fit well in to the story.  Writing is a lot of work and when your manuscript goes out there and gets shopped around and nothing happens, it really feels like a death in the family.  So, getting inspired to get back at the task again is tough.  Invoking the proverbial Cave Man in this quote, Jack London reminds me that you can’t just wait for creativity to flow over you.  You have to get after it.  You have to write every day.  Even if it’s just this. To you. Out there. Whoever you are…
